Business Development Manager- Data Center Market

Building Controls & Solutions (BCS) is a leading solutions provider (and Value-added Distributor) of Building Automation control products and solutions. We provide products and services to Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Contractors working in the HVAC market. Our dedicated and experienced staff leverages our relationships with industry leading manufacturers to develop competitive solutions solving building automation and energy management challenges in the commercial building space. We operate around local branches, geared for Contractor visits, with a showroom of available products ready for purchase.

As we are expanding into the data center market, we are looking for a high-performing Sales Professional to help us drive BAS product sales in this mission-critical vertical.

Position Summary

We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Manager to lead sales growth within the rapidly expanding data center market. This role is responsible for identifying and securing new opportunities for building automation systems (BAS), controls, and field device distribution across hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center projects. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships with contractors, consulting engineers, and facility teams, influencing specifications and driving product adoption from early design through final procurement.

As a key player in BCS’s strategic vertical expansion, you will represent a comprehensive portfolio of industry-leading brands including Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Belimo, Veris, and Tridium. You will collaborate with OEMs, engineering teams, and project stakeholders to deliver tailored and scalable solutions. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of data center infrastructure, technical sales experience, and the ability to navigate complex construction and procurement cycles.

This role reports to the Director of National Accounts and will be focused on sales execution, account strategy and general business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and cultivate new business opportunities with contractors, integrators, developers, design engineers and end users in the data center/mission-critical space.
  • Develop and manage a pipeline of customers, including MEP contractors, controls integrators, and service companies who execute work in the data center/mission-critical environments.
  • Sell our full portfolio of building automation products and solutions (e.g., Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Tridium, Belimo, etc.) into data center-related projects.
  • Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales revenue targets set by Director of National Accounts as related to the data center vertical.
  • Understand and influence BAS design and procurement decisions during the bid and construction phases of data center projects.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers and internal support teams to ensure accurate quoting, product selection, and order fulfillment.
  • Work with BCS’ Technical Solutions Group to provide technical sales support, alternative product recommendations and value-engineered solutions.
  • Attend industry events (e.g., 7x24, AFCOM, Data Center World) to generate leads and grow visibility in the market.
  • Keep detailed records in CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot) to track leads, activities, and opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of the data center market, including how mechanical/control systems are specified and procured.
  • 5+ years of outside sales experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or related built environment specialty.
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed sales quotas in a technical product environment.
  • Familiarity with controls protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus) and major BAS platforms (e.g., Niagara, Honeywell, JCI).
  • Effective communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex sales cycle, often involving contractors, engineers, and owner reps.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Engineering, Business, or related field).
